The Valley of Love, Dalat

A great tour to add-on as an extension or standalone program to those visiting the south of Vietnam. Start your tour as you drive from Ho Chi Minh to the old Central Highland hill station of Dalat. Explore the scenic town and see old French colonial mansions, stunning landscapes and a vibrant town centre. Continue from Dalat along mountainside switchbacks to the seaside resort city of Nha Trang where you can relax on the beaches and explore the city before  heading back to Ho Chi Minh

Itinerary

Day 1
Ho Chi Minh - Dalat
Take a scenic drive from Ho Chi Minh City to the central highlands town of Dalat.  Visit rubber, tea and coffee plantations en route.  Your choice of accommodations are Hotel du Parc - 4* or Dalat Place - 5* for two nights.
Day 2
Dalat (B)
Enjoy breakfast before your full day of sightseeing in and around Dalat. Take a cable car ride to Tuyen Lam Lake. Visit the summer residence of Bao Dai, Vietnam’s last emperor, the fascinating Crazy House, the cathedrals and convents that populate this former French retreat. Dalat’s temperate climate makes it ideal for vegetable and flower cultivation, and this tour includes a visit to the Dalat Market and the Dalat Flower Garden to see a variety of orchid species. End the day by taking a relaxing horse-drawn cart ride around Xuan Huong Lake and see the old steam engines of the Dalat’s Cremaillere Railway.
Day 3 Dalat - Nha Trang (B) After breakfast, the beautiful drive to Nha Trang begins with a series of mountainside switchbacks affording spectacular views of the arid lowlands and the sea. Stop near the seaside town of Phan Rang to visit Po Klong Garai, a well-preserved 14th century Cham Tower. Follow the coastal road to Nha Trang, stopping at a vineyard along the way. Upon arrival in Nha Trang, hotel check-in then the rest of the day is free to enjoy this beach town at your leisure.  Overnight at the Hotel Novotel - 4* or the Evason Ana Mandara - 5* for two nights.
Day 4
Nha Trang (B)
Enjoy Nha Trang’s turquoise waters and white sandy beaches with a morning boat cruise to offshore islands in Nha Trang Bay. In the afternoon, visit the Po Nagar Cham Towers, the Dam Market, the Nha Trang Stone Cathedral, or the Long Son Pagoda where the giant Sakyamuni Buddha statue sits on the top of the hill.  The remainder of your day is at leisure.
Day 5
Nha Trang - Phan Thiet (B)
Meet in the morning for another scenic drive, this time to Phan Thiet. Gain wonderful views from the mountainside roads and then follow the coastal road to Phan Thiet. Upon arrival at the hotel, check-in at Blue Ocean Resort - 4* or Princess d'Annam Resort - 5* for two nights and enjoy your time in Phan Thiet at your leisure.
Day 6 & 7
Phan Thiet (B)
Enjoy 2 full days to soak up the sun and village atmosphere.  Optional tour to the sand dunes or Ke Ga Lighthouse is available.   
Day 8
Phan Thiet - Ho Chi Minh (B)
Drive along the coast to Ho Chi Minh.

Price per person, minimum 2 persons traveling together. Vietnam Entry Visa fee is $120 and not included in the package.

Travel Guide

Entry Regulations:

All Canadian citizens require a Canadian passport valid for at least six months beyond the date of your entry into the country. An entry visa is necessary to enter Vietnam prior to arrival. You will need to fill out an application form, 2 passport size photo and a copy of your passport to obtain an entry visa.

Please check with your country’s Foreign Affairs office to find out about entry requirements for non-Canadians and Americans.

Climate:

Vietnam has a tropical monsoon climate with wet and dry seasons varying from north to south and with elevation changes. November-April is the dry season in the north, Central Highlands and south. Temperatures range from 14-33 degrees Celsius.

Currency:

The basic unit of currency is the Vietnamam Dong (VND). At present, the exchange rate is VND20,921 to C$1 and VND20,830 to US$1. As exchange rates fluctuate many times every day, this rate might not accurately reflect the rate during your trip. Please check exchange rates closer to your date of travel.

Electricity:

Vietnam uses both the 110 and 220 volt system.

Tip: This system may differ from the one you use at home. If it is different, please purchase an adaptor from a travel store near you, to take advantage of the power ports in your hotel room.

Language:

The official language is Vietnamese, tonal language with a mixture of Mon-Khmer, Thai and Chinese. French is still spoken among the older generation while English is more likely to be the second language of the younger generation.

Health Requirement:

No vaccination certificates are required unless coming from an infected area. For all health requirements and recommendations, travellers should check with their doctors for change in requirements.

Airport Facilities and Tax:

The international airports are Tan Son Nhat (Saigon) International Airport in Ho Chi Minh City and the Noi Bai International Airport in Hanoi. Departure taxes are formulated into the price of your airline ticket.

Shopping:

Vietnam is particularly known for its various styles of lacquer ware (mother of pearl inlay and duck shell) and its growing silk industry. Contemporary paintings and copies of masterpiece work are also widely available in Ho Chi Minh City and Hanoi. Extreme caution should be noted when buying goods. Any goods that are considered "antique" will be confiscated. It is illegal to export any item that might be considered "antique" from Vietnam.

Cuisine:

Traditional Vietnamese cuisine boasts 500 specialties varying from the famous spring rolls to tamarind crab. Meals are generally not spicy but make use of a wide array of interesting sauces. Ho Chi Minh City has an increasing selection of international restaurants including Italian, French, Indian, Japanese and Chinese.
