Itinerary

Day 1
Arrive Bangkok
Upon arrivlal at the airport, meet and transfer to the Shangri-La Hotel - 5* for three nights.
Day 2
Bangkok (B)
Enjoy breakfast at the hotel before your half-day Temples & Grand Palace tour of Bangkok.  The Royal Grand Palace is the former royal residence of the Chakri Kings, and is a perfect example of an ancient Siamese court. Built in 1782 by King Rama I, it was the centre of power for more than 150 years. Today, the palace is Bangkok's major landmark. Today’s tour also includes a visit to Wat Phra Kaew, the Temple of the Emerald Buddha, located right next to the Grand Palace. When you enter the compound, you will first see Wat Phra Kaew and the nearby attractions, before moving on to the Grand Palace. Today’s tour also includes “Wat Traimit” with its 5-ton heavy Golden Buddha Image and a pass through Bangkok’s China Town, or “Wat Po” with its Reclining Buddha image. Wat Pho is also regarded as the first centre of public education and is sometimes called ‘Thailand’s first university’. Mural paintings, inscriptions, and statues found in the temple educated people on varied subjects such as literature, warfare, archaeology, astronomy, geology, meditation and is to be considered the home of Thai traditional massage. Enjoy the afternoon at your leisure.
Day 3
Bangkok (B/L)
Today, visit the former capital of Thailand, Ayutthaya, situated approximately 75 kilometres north of Bangkok. The mixing of cultures in Ayutthaya began in the mid-16th centurywhen ships from Ayutthaya plied the Asian seas, trading with neighbouring countries.   Start at the Summer Palace of the late King Rama V, commonly known as “Bang Pa-In”.  Continue to the magnificent ruins of early splendour that Ayutthaya is most known for. Pass or visit all of the most impressive ruins of this World Heritage Site. Return to Bangkok on a cruise down the Chao Phraya River on a comfortable, air-conditioned cruise ship, while enjoying a sumptuous buffet lunch on board.  Upon arrival at the disembarkation point in Bangkok in the late afternoon, transfer back to the hotel.
Day 4
Bangkok - Siem Reap (B)
After breakfast at the hotel you will be driven to the airport to board your flight to Siem Reap, Cambodia. On arrival in Siem Reap, meet your local guide local and transfer to your hotel for check-in. The rest of the day is at your leisure. Stay three nights at the Hotel de la Paix – 4+*.
Day 5
Siem Reap (B/L)
Start your full day tour of the Angkor Archaeological Park by entering Angkor Thom via the Southern Gate to explore the ancient city. Proceed to visit the enigmatic Bayon temple, and the ruins of Baphoun, Phimeanakas, the Royal Palace, the Terrace of the Elephants and Terrace of the Leper Kings. In the afternoon, visit the graceful 11th century Banteay Srei Temple built in dedication to God Shiva as well as the Banteay Samre Temple.
Day 6
Siem Reap (B/L/D)
This morning visit magnificent Angkor Wat with its extraordinary architecture bas-reliefs. In the afternoon, take a memorable boat cruise to a nearby floating village and experience the everyday life of the local people. This evening, relax as you enjoy a wonderful dinner & traditional Apsara dance performance.
Day 7
Siem Reap - Koh Samui (B)
Enjoy breakfast before you are met and then transferred to the airport for your flight to Koh Samui via Bangkok. On arrival on the island of Samui, meet your local guide and then drive to your hotel for check-in. Stay three nights at the Hansar Samui Resort – 5*.
Day 8
Koh Samui (B)
Enjoy a half-day Samui Island tour. This tour provides the perfect opportunity to get a true feel for the island and see for yourself, the unspoiled beauty of Samui. We’ll take you to spectacular view points including the famous “Grandmother and Grandfather Rocks”,  and pass through a coconut plantation where you will see monkeys picking coconuts, and even try some fresh coconut.  Enjoy a demonstration by the local people of how to make coconut milk by hand and try your hand at the trade. Later, visit Wat Kunaram, a temple containing the mummified relic of a monk, who died and still remains in the lotus position. Before our last stop, we head down to admire the beauty of the Na Muang waterfall (No.1). The last stop is Nathon, the island main town, where you’ll have time to wander around the shops. On the way back to the hotel, stop and visit the Island’s most memorable landmark, the Big Buddha with its statue facing the surrounding bay.  Upon your return to the hotel, the afternoon is at your leisure.
Day 9
Siem Reap (B)
Enjoy the day on Samui at your leisure.
Day 10
Siem Reap - Bangkok (B)
Enjoy the morning at your leisure, and the afternoon you will be met and then driven to the airport for your flight to Bangkok. On arrival in Bangkok, transfer by hotel shuttle to your hotel for check-in for your one night stay. Overnight at the Novotel Suvarnabhumi Airport Hotel – 4*.
Day 11
Depart Bangkok (B)
Head to the airport.

Travel Guide

Entry Regulations:
All Canadian citizens require a Canadian passport valid for at least six months beyond the date of your entry into the country. Canadians citizens do not require a visa for stay of up to six months and American citizens A visa is not required for stays of up to 30 days. Visitors must be in possession of a return or on-ward ticket and may be asked for proof of sufficient funds for your stay.

Please check with your country’s Foreign Affairs office to find out about entry requirements for non-Canadians and Americans.

Climate:
Thailand is generally very hot, particularly between March and May. The monsoon season runs from June to October, when the climate is still hot and humid with torrential rains. The best time for traveling is November to February (cool season), although the southern islands are best from June to September.

Currency:
The Thai Bhat (THB) is the basic unit of currency. At present, the rate of exchange is THB31.27 for C$1 and THB29.88 to US$1. As exchange rates fluctuate each day, please check the current exchange rate near your date of travel.

Electricity:
The current used in Thailand is the 220V, 50-cycle system.

Tip: This system may differ from the one you use at home. If it is different, please purchase an adaptor from a travel store near you, to take advantage of the power ports in your hotel room.

Language:
The official language is Thai. English is widely spoken, especially in establishments catering for tourists.

Health Requirement:
Vaccination certificates are not required of Canadian or American tourists unless they have visited a country where an infection/disease is endemic. If you are from another part of the world, please check with a travel medicine professional for more information on possible requirements.

Airport Facilities and Tax:
The international airport in Bangkok is Suvarnabhumi International Airport. Other airports are in Chiang Mai, Phuket and Koh Samui; The departure tax is formulated into your airline ticket.

Shopping:
Thailand is one of the best places in Asia for bargain hunting and visitors will be spoilt for choice with the huge, glitzy shopping malls, department stores, small shops and bustling street markets. Both Bangkok and Chiang Mai have excellent night markets. Good buys include Thai silks and cottons, leather goods, batiks, silver and gold, precious and semiprecious stones (in particular rubies and sapphires are indigenous to Thailand), pearls, dolls, masks, painted umbrellas, lacquer ware, pewter ware, bamboo and wood artifacts and bronze ware. The weekend market at Chatuchuk in Bangkok is a regular cornucopia with hundreds of stalls stocking items ranging from genuine antiques to fighting fish. Tailor-made clothes are also good value and can be made in a matter of days, yet the standard is very high.

Cuisine:
Thai cuisine is distinctive, thanks to liberal use of spicy ingredients. It combines the best of Chinese and Indian culinary traditions while retaining its own very special character. International food in restaurants and food-shops are abundant.
