Tibet, Roof of the World
Days 1:
Arrive in Lhasa, Tibet’s capital city where you will stay at the Tibet Hotel *4-star. Enjoy the rest of the day at your leisure.
Day 2:
Start the day visiting Lhasa's Potala Palace, built in the 640's during the reign of King Songtsan Gampo. Next, visit the Jokhang Monastery, a massive 7th century building filled with chapels and chambers. Enjoy a fun trip to circular Barkhor Street where you can test your bargaining skills with local merchants. Also visit the incredible Tibetan Museum.
Day 3:
This morning, tour the largest monastery in the world, the Drepung Monastery, founded in 1416 by one of Tsong Khapa's disciples. Continue the day visiting the Sera Monastery, one of the three largest monasteries dedicated to Gelugpa Buddhism. Finally, see Norbu Lingka, the summer palace of the revered Dalai Lama.
Day 4:
Today, travel by coach to Gyangtse, Tibet's third largest city situated 4,000 meters above sea level. Stop at beautiful Yundrok Yumtso Lake and enjoy a picnic lunch. Visit the amazing Baiju Monastery, which embraces all sects of Buddhism. Tonight, stay at the Gyangtse Hotel *3-1/2-star.
Day 5:
This morning, head to Shigatse, the ancient capital city of Lhasa. Visit the spectacular Tashilhunpo Monastery, founded in 1477 by Gendun Drubpa, the first Dalai Lama. Tonight, stay at the Shigatse Hotel *3-star.
Day 6:
Today, you will return to Lhasa where you will stay at the Tibet Hotel *4-star.
Day 7:
Head to the airport for your onward flight.
